Below you will find details on both SecureCode offered by Mastercard and Visa Verified, this is a system introduced by both major card issuing organisations to protect both the merchant and buyer from fraudulent purchases. The system works in a very similar way to standard chip and pin and has been developed for electronic cardholder not present transactions and you will find details and links to below which will let you register your card if your bank is a participant in the scheme. Please do not use your chip and pin number this is not the same system and you should never enter this over the internet.

cardholders. MasterCard SecureCode enhances your current MasterCard card
with a secret code to protect against unauthorized use of your card when you
shop online at participating merchants. If your MasterCard credit or debit
card or Maestro card is issued by one of the following financial
institutions you can register for a MasterCard SecureCode now. If your
issuer is not on the list, check back frequently-new issuers are being added
all the time.
